New Deal

The New Deal were programs set up in response to the Great Depression and were aimed to focus on what people called the 3 R's: Relief, Recovery and Reform.

- FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Commission):
This act gave the FDIC the control of money and official banking systems in the US.

-SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission):
This acts purpose was to restore investor confidence by ending misleading sales practices and stock manipulation that caused the crash in the first place.

-TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority):
This was used to modernize the area and make it more usable for people.

-SSA (Social Security Act):
The act was an attempt to limit what was seen as dangers in the modern American life, including old age, poverty, unemployment, and the burdens of widows and fatherless children.

-NLRA (National Labor Relations Board):
This act  a foundational statute of US labor law which guarantees basic rights of private sector employees to organize into trade unions, engage in collective bargaining for better terms and conditions at work, and take collective action including strike if necessary.

-WPA (Works Progress Administration):
This act employed millions of people to do public projects.

FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act):
This act created time-and-a-half when overtime is worked for certain jobs.

The Dust Bowl

The Dust Bowl was a devastating drought that hit the mid west in the 1930's.
