Lewis Hine Photo

I chose this picture because I think it displays the feelings that kids that worked in the mills truly felt. This girl seems sad and upset, unhappy to be working such long hard shifts. She looks as if she is longing to be outside and be free from the harsh environment. She looks like she is longing to be able to be a kid again and as if she is longing to get out of the harsh mill girl lifestyle.

My Native American Name

My Indian name if I had one would be shining swan. I have reasons for choosing both names. First, I would choose shining because I love sunlight and warmth. I love warm sunny days and summer is my favorite season. Also, I try to keep a light mood and not be too serious.
Moreover, my other name that I chose would be swan. I chose swan because swans have long wingspans and necks and I have long limbs and am kind of lanky. Also, swans are considered to be swift, graceful and agile. When I am playing sports I am usually very agile and swift. I am never awkward, and neither are swans.

Native American Portraits

Source
My thoughts are that they had to do a lot of moving and traveling during the times of western expansion in America. It looks as though they had little material items that they could actually carry with them other than the clothes on their backs and what they could put on their horses. It looks like it was a depressing, sad and lonely time for the Natives of the land. They are people just like the English, yet the Englishmen can't see themselves as equal to the Indians, when they really were equal. They were moved and mistreated, it was hard for them to live the lives that they wanted.
